Ayurveda Kitchen Spices



Fresh Ginger – Ardrak - Zingiber officinale
Appetizer, mild laxative.

Dry Ginger
Beneficial in Edema, Joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, cough.

Nutmeg – Jatiphalam -Myristica officinale
Chronic rhinitis, alleviates the foul smell of stools; Pediatric ailments like diarrhea, worm infestation, cough; good for sound sleep especially in children.

Clove - Devakusum / Lavang - Caryophyllus aromaticus
Cleanses mouth, relieves toothache, thirst, flatulence, cough, hiccup, tastelessness etc.

Saffron - Keshar / Kumkum - Croci stigmata
Improves complexion, Benefits in fetal growth during pregnancy.

Cardamom / Large Cardamom – Ela - Amomum subletum
Asthma, Cough, Nausea, Headache, urine infections etc.

Small Cardamom - Sookshma Ela - Elettaria cardamomum
Beneficial in hemorrhoids, respiratory and urinary disorders, Acts as a mouth freshener.

Cinnamon Bark – Darusita - Cinnamon cartex
Good for Headache, used as an ingredient in Spicy Tea.

Ajmoda - Carum roxburghianum - Bishops Weed
Improves appetite; good for eyes; beneficial in hiccup and vomiting.

Fennel Seeds – Shatapushpa - Feniculum vulgeri
Appetizer and digestive and relieves bad breath; abdominal pain and fever; good for the eyes. Commonly used as after meal digestive. It is also used in Tambul (Paan).
